![]() David Dueñas, a versatile performer and teacher, began playing guitar at an early age. By the time he was only 12 years old, he began his professional musical journey at the Guam Academy of Music and Arts, under the tutelage of flamenco guitarist, Adelo Alcaraz. Shortly after his arrival to San Francisco in 1985, he continued his passionate pursuit towards studies in jazz and classical guitar respectively with Mark Stefani and James Bertram as well as performed at Bay Area venues with a local rock band. His commitment and determination lead him to studies with internationally renowned composer/guitarist Dusan Bogdanovic and in 1994 he received a Masters in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 1999, Mr. Dueñas released a classical solo guitar CD entitled Modes and Expressions and since, has released three records with the San Francisco Guitar Quartet (SFGQ). These recordings opened many performance opportunities, such as, returning home to the island of Guam to share and debut the fabulous sounds of The San Francisco Guitar Quartet (June 2005), performing Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Guam Symphony Orchestra (May 2006), and in June of 2006 the SFGQ performed a six concert tour throughout Taiwan. Today Mr. Dueñas divides his time between family life, friends, performing, recording, and teaching. He is currently on the music faculty of Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, continues to tour and record with The San Francisco Guitar Quartet, and plays many guitar styles with the smooth jazz instrumental band The Allen Brown Project. |
